Review of Theses about The Art therapy for ADHD Children

Abstract
Art therapy has been evaluated positively as one of the therapies for ADHD children¡¯s self-expression and sublimation, easy expression of inside emotions and linguistic expression and for positive changes and improvement of problematic acts. This study aimed at analyzing the general art therapies characteristics and contents suggested in art therapies programs reviewing the papers of the art therapy researches for ADHD children. The objects of this analysis were M.S.' theses related to art therapies for ADHD children, After grasping whole contents of papers, activities names and activities media were analyzed, which were based upon general characteristics and the contents suggested in art programs. The specific results from this study were as followings: From the general characteristics of the art therapies rsearches for ADHD children. as the result of analyses by year, entering into 2000s, the quantity of researches has shown the increasing tendency and in age analysis, elementary school students and children occupied the highest ratio as 90%. As well, there were a lot of researches targeting on groups, and as for research designs, case studies have been conducted. Also, in therapies peiod and times, 3 months and 24 times occupied the most, as measuring tools, ADHD rating scale, K -HTP and KFD were used in the order. As variables, over actions and distraction, the deficiency of concentration and deficiency of attention appeared in the order. As the result of the ¡®contents¡¯an¸Óses of the art therapies programs for ADHD children, in early stage, mosaic, painting like scribbling, finger painting and cooperative painting centering on collage, in middle stage, egg painting, decalcomania centering on folding colored papers and decoration and in final stage, mosaic and my future image centering on modeling were represented in the order. The selection of the programs was mainly done by correcting and supplementing previous research programs. The thorough prior preparation and therapies plans to collect data and make a plan were required before executing the art therapies Examining the analyses results of the media, clay occupied the most, followed by newspapers and magazines. In art therapies, the media should have the function to make c1ient express his/her inside effectively for the improvement of the disorder, and more preparation was needed even though the materials were the same, so that they could be utilized variously by differentiating the utilization methods or controls.
Comprehending these, the art therapies programs for ADHD children were suggested and the steps were composed of the early, middle and final step, which were used short time activities and in developmental stages, proper art techniques, considering improper behaviors and positive behaviors by grasping children¡¯s behavioral characteristics. The analyses of programs of this study had the meaning in providing the basic data for the various and balanced research development in the research field related to the art therapies.
